This Week in Peacock Baseball... Upper Iowa is on the road for six games within the Northern Sun Conference this week. The Peacocks will get started with a mid-week double header at the University of Sioux Falls on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. before heading to the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series.
Fit to be "Ty"-ed... Adkins led Upper Iowa to a 3-1 victory on Saturday over previously-unbeaten St. Cloud State University. The #1 Huskies touched Adkins for just one run while the right-hander scattered 7 hits over his nine innings of work while walking only one batter and striking out four. The complete game was his second of the season as he improved to 3-2 on the year.
Taking Down #1... The Peacocks defeated the #1 team in the country for the first time since the 1996 NCAA Division III World Series when they came out on the right side of a 1-0 pitchers' duel.
"Calt"-apulting to the Top... Junior transfer
Anthony Calton has catapulted to the top of the hitting charts for Upper Iowa this season. UIU's starting left fielder is hitting .338 with 24 hits including 5 doubles, a pair of triples and one homer with 14 rbi and 21 runs scored. Calton has also thrown out three baserunners from leftfield this season.
Return to Robertson Woods... Upper Iowa will return to Robertson Woods Field in Fayette next Wednesday, Apr. 20, with a pair of games against the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato. The return home will be short-lived though as the Peacocks will head to Marshall, Minn. to battle Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 23-24.
One Cougar and One Golden Eagle to Watch... Dylan Gavin is a dual threat for the Cougars with a .403 batting average and a 5-0 record on the mound with a 4.32 ERA. Kenny Perez is having another great year at the plate for the Golden Eagles with an average still hovering above .400 midway through the season.
