Yellow Jackets Sting Peacocks in Clearwater

Cedarville 5 - Upper Iowa 2. The Peacocks scored first and led 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth, but the Yellow Jackets put five unanswered runs on the board to hand UIU their third loss in Florida.

Upper Iowa scratched the scoreboard first and had a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning, but Cedarville (2-1) scored five unanswered runs to steal the 5-2 victory.

Cody Booker tripled with one out in the third inning and came home on a ground out by starting pitcher Mitch Moser for the first run.  The Peacocks added another run in the fourth inning after back-to-back singles by Colton Janssen and Eric Cottrell to open the frame.  With one out, both took off looking to steal a base and forced an errant throw that allowed Janssen to score.

The Yellow Jackets used three singles in the fifth inning to cut the Peacock lead in half and they tied the game in the sixth with a sac fly that pushed an unearned run across the plate.

Cedarville took the lead with two runs in the seventh thanks to three hits including a leadoff double and added an insurance run in the ninth to set the final margin at 5-2.

Moser (1-0) picked up a no-decision with 6 innings of work; the junior allowed 2 runs, 1 was earned, on 9 hits while striking out 7.  Tanner Poor (0-1) took the loss after working the seventh inning and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.  Ethan Eckleberg cleaned up with 2 innings allowing a run while striking out two.

Booker had a big day at the plate going 3 for 3, while Cottrell added a pair of hits.  Janssen and Alex George were the only other Peacocks to reach base with a hit.

Upper Iowa will face off against the Lions of St. Leo University again tomorrow in a rematch of Sunday's game two.  This time the teams will meet under the lights at 6 p.m. on St. Leo's campus in St. Leo, Fla.
