Upper Iowa's volleyball team ran into a buzzsaw on Friday night in Marshall, Minn. in the form of the #4 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Peacocks were swept 3-0 by SMSU to end their current three-match and nine-set winning streaks. After the decision, UIU falls to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference, while SMSU improves to 13-3 and 7-1 NSIC.
The visitors had very few answers for the Mustang attack on the night as SMSU hit .424 in the match thanks to 48 kills and only 6 attack errors. Southwest Minnesota State had no errors in the first set and only one in the second set; while Upper Iowa committed 20 attack errors in the three sets. The Mustangs controlled all three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16.
SMSU was led by Taylor Reiss, who posted a double-double (18 kills/14 digs), and Sarah Parker, who notched 10 kills and 6 blocks.
Upper Iowa got 8 kills from
Chelsea Berry and 7 from
Haley Weepie, while
Malissa LeClaire dished up 15 assists and
Carlee Ketchum added 12. Ketchum also added a team-high 10 digs.
The Peacocks will challenge the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
