No. 13 Beavers Top Peacocks With Three Second-Half Goals

#13 Minot State 3 - Upper Iowa 0. The Beavers scored all three goals in the second half against the Peacocks, and outshot UIU 22-12.

The Peacocks surrendered three second-half goals on Sunday afternoon in Minot, N.D. when the No. 13 Beavers of Minot State University shutout Upper Iowa 3-0. Minot State (11-1, 10-0 NSIC) remains undefeated in conference play with the win, while the loss drops UIU to 7-6 overall and 6-5 in the NSIC.
 
The home team outshot their guest 22-12, including a 9-4 advantage in shots placed on goal. 
 
After a scorless first half in which Upper Iowa controlled the ball (8-5 lead in shots, 5-2 lead in corners), the Beavers put together their offense in the second frame. Jannely Rangel opened the scoring in the second stanza with a goal in the 47th minute. Ninfa Ramirez and Kelli Creese were credited with the assists. In the 64th minute, Ryann Rafferty received a corner kick from Ashley Franco, and converted a header for a goal to put the Beavers up 2-0.  

Eight minutes later, the home team put the game away for good with a goal from Carrisa Schlesinger, and Minot State held a commanding 3-0 lead they would never surrender. The Beavers outshot UIU 17-4 in the second half to put the match away.

For the game, the home team led in shots (22-12), shots on goal (9-4), and corners earned (6-5). Caila Petrie tallied six saves in goal, while taking the loss and dropping to 7-6 on the season.

Upper Iowa will head back home next weekend to take on a pair of NSIC opponents. The Peacocks will host the Northern State Wolves on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at Pattison Field in Fayette. UIU will then take on the Dragons of MSU Moorhead on Sunday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
