The Peacocks (9-10, 5-5 NSIC) take a three-game winning streak on their furthest conference road trip when they head to North Dakota to take on the Minot State Beavers and University of Mary Marauders. UIU will first play in Minot, N.D., when they visit the Beavers on Friday night at 8 p.m. The Peacocks then take a short trip to Bismarck, N.D., when they play the Marauders on Saturday at 6 p.m.
NOTES FROM LAST WEEKENDÂ Upper Iowa picked up its first conference weekend sweep with a pair of wins over Southwst Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. Against the Mustangs, Upper Iowa held a decided advantage from beyond the arc, hitting 11-of-21 trifectas compared to the Mustangs, who were just 5-of-18 from 3-point range.
Luke Lenhart matched his career-high with 27 points and was 7-of-8 from beyond the arc in the 81-69 win over SMSU. Upper Iowa then earned its third straight NSIC victory and second consecutive strong defensive performance with an 81-68 win over the Cougars of USF in Sioux Falls, S.D., Saturday night. The Peacocks shot a season-high 88.5% (23-26) from the free throw line in the win, while the Cougars were just 5-of-11 from the charity stripe.
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDERÂ 1 Â Â Â A CENTURY IN THE MAKING: Upper Iowa enters its 100th year of men's basketball with the start of the 2015-16 season and third year under the tutelage of
Brooks McKowen. The Fairbank, Iowa native was named the 18th head coach in Peacock men's basketball history prior to the 2013-14 season and holds a 42-37 record at UIU.
2 Â Â Â RENAISSANCE MAN: Sophomore guard
Carson Parker has emerged this season as one of the best players for UIU. The New Hartford, Iowa native is second on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounding (5.4 rpg) and assists (2.9 apg). Parker set a new career-high with 23 points against Sioux Falls last Saturday.
3 Â Â Â HITTING 80: All of UIU's wins have come when the Peacocks have scored 80 points or more this season, including a pair of wins last weekend. Upper Iowa is 9-3 when hitting the 80-point threshold, but are 0-7 when scoring 79 or less.
4 Â Â Â SHOOTING TO VICTORY: Shooting percentages tell the story of the season for Upper Iowa. When the Peacocks shoot better than opponents, they are 8-1, but just 1-9 when opponents have the upperhand in shooting.
THE SERIESÂ
vs MINOT STATE: (6-0) - The Peacocks have won every meeting in the brief history with the Beavers, including two wins last season in Dorman Gymnasium.Â
vs U-MARY: (6-5) - The Marauders got the best of the Peacocks in Dorman Gym last year, hold UIU to a season-low 56 points, but UIU has still won three of the last four games between the two teams.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTÂ MINOT STATE: The Beavers (7-9, 2-8 NSIC) couldn't get enough stops in the second half to finish the weekend with a win, falling 86-71 Friday at Northern State and 97-89 Saturday at No. 3 Minnesota State University Moorhead. Tyler Rudolph averaged 26 points and 11 rebounds - including pulling down 12 offensive boards at NSU. Chris Davis scored 29 total points on the weekend, hitting 7-of-12 3-pointers and added five assists, five steals and four rebounds.
U-MARY: U-Mary is 13-3 overall and stands 8-2 in the Northern Sun, third in the NSIC North Division and fourth in the overall league standings. The Marauders are 4th in the D2SIDA Central Region poll and expanded their win streak to eight with a 77-73 road victory over the nation's 3rd-ranked Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons, who are currently second in the regional poll. Previously the highest ranked NCAA team U-Mary had defeated was an 8th ranked St. Cloud State University squad in Dec. 2007.                          Â
