Peacocks Sweep Warriors to Kick Off Home Schedule

Upper Iowa 3 - Waldorf 0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-17)

Upper Iowa swept Waldorf College in three sets to kick off their 2015 home schedule.  The win improved the Peacocks' season record to 4-1 thanks to set wins of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-17.  Waldorf dropped to 3-9 after the loss.

The Peacocks came out fast against the Warriors taking an early 7-2 lead and then grew their advantage to sixteen, 21-5.  Jennifer Mundt spearheaded the Upper Iowa attack in the first set with 8 kills.  UIU recorded 14 kills and just a pair of errors while hitting .500 as a group.

In the second set, the Peacocks got a little loose on their attack committing seven errors, but the team battled through the mistakes and still posted 13 kills to pick up a 25-17 victory.

UIU won by the same score in set three, but Head Coach Aaron Nelson went to the bench and got some reserves a set of valuable playing time.  After a slow start in the final set, Upper Iowa pulled away to win 25-17 thanks to a points on seven of the final eight services.

Mundt led the team with 12 kills during her two sets of action and added 4 digs and Kelsey Hinrichs dropped in 8 kills and 5 digs.

Jenna Hermsen kept the attack on track with 20 assists before giving way to Malissa LeClaire, who racked up 8 assists, in the third set.  While Hinrichs and Mundt were on top of Hermsen's distribution checklist, LeClaire found a rythym with Chelsea Berry, who knocked down 5 kills.

Taylor Williams paced the back line defense with 15 digs, while Sydney Cyzon and Hermsen also reached double figures with 10 digs apiece.

Upper Iowa will take on Michigan Tech on Thursday night in the opening match of the Peacock Open.  UIU will challenge Northern Michigan in their lone match on Friday before taking on Minot State and St. Cloud State on Saturday.

The three night matches will be broadcast live on KCRG 9.2 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-12.
