The Peacocks men's soccer team remained undefeated with a 0-0 tie against the Tigers of West Alabama on Friday night in Jackson, Tennessee. The tie moved UIU to a 4-0-1 record to start the 2015 season, continuing the best start in program history. West Alabama also picked up its first tie of the season, moving to 1-3-1 on the year.
Despite outshooting their opponent 21-8, the Peacocks could finish their opportunities and were held scoreless for the first time this year. Upper Iowa had eight shots on goal and forced the Tiger goalkeeper to make six saves before West Alabama put their first shot on net.
In both overtimes, UIU combined to outshoot UWA 4-1, but they could not find the back of the net.
Eleven different Peacock players took a shot in the game, including all 10 starting field players.
Leandro Pena led the team with five shots, placing two on frame, while
Greg Marshall and
Rafael Pedroso took three shots each. Sophomore goalkeeper
Connor Rortvedt earned his third shutout of the season by making three saves in the game, surpassing his total for clean sheets from last season.
The Peacocks will stay in Jackson, Tennessee, for their next game when they take on Union University on Sunday, Sept. 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
