Peacocks Perfect in Colorado, Move to 4-0 on Marshall's Goals

Upper Iowa beat Colorado Christian 2-1 on Sunday as Greg Marshall scored two goals.

The Peacock men's soccer team (4-0) remained undefeated and completed the first leg of their six-game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday afternoon. Greg Marshall continued his hot start to his senior season, scoring both goals for UIU and now has four goals in four games. The 4-0 start is the best in program history since moving to NCAA Division II, besting a 2-0-1 start from last season and a 2-1-1 start in 2008, a season in which they also defeated Colorado Christian.

Marshall broke the scoreless tie with a goal 30 minutes into the game. Johnny McBeth picked up his second assist of the season on the goal, finding Marshall in the box. Two minutes later, Marshall nearly pushed the game to 2-0 when he ripped a shot that hit the post, but the Peacocks took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

With the Peacocks putting pressure on early in the second half, Colorado Christian countered and tied the game at the 65:54 mark in the game. But less than a minute later, the Peacock pressure finally added up to a Cougar mistake. Colorado Christian was called for a handball in the box and Marshall was able to convert a penalty kick for the go-ahead and game-winning goal. UIU outshot CCU 5-3 over the final 20-plus minutes of the game and closed out the game for the win.

Gabriel Caetano led Upper Iowa with four shots on the day, followed by Leandro Pena and Marshall tied with three. Goalkeeper Connor Rortvedt improved to 4-0 on the season and made four saves in the net.

Upper Iowa's next games will come in Jackson, Tennessee, where they will take on West Alabama (1-3) on Friday, Sept. 18 and Union University (2-2) on Sunday, Sept. 20.
