WEEKLY NOTES
UPPER IOWA | WINONA STATE | AUGUSTANA | NORTHERN SUN
THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… Upper Iowa will close out the regular season this week with a double header against Winona State on the road on Wednesday before returning home to Fayette to host Augustana in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday at Robertson Woods Field. The games in Winona, Minn. mark the 17th and 18th games on the road during the month of April for the Peacocks; UIU has only played at Robertson Woods six times in April going 4-2 in those games.
SOMETHING A LITTLE EXTRA... Upper Iowa's offense came into the year with a focus on driving the ball for extra base hits and the results have been dramatic. With six games to go, the Peacocks have 127 extra base hits this season with 88 doubles, 12 triples and 27 homeruns to reach a slugging percentage of .445 with 293 runs scored. A stark contrast to a season ago when the team tallied just 70 extra base hits with 57 doubles, 4 triples and 7 homers and a slugging percentage of .349 scoring just 175 runs. Jacob Greco leads with the team with 9 homeruns and 24 extra base hits, while Alex George has a team-high 15 doubles and Luis Ravelo leads the Peacocks with 4 triples. FOURS GALORE... Last week, the Peacock pitchers allowed only four runs in five of their six games. Mitch Moser, Mason Buster, Zach Carstens and Charley Cunningham all lost their starts, but for Buster and Carstens the identical 4-3 losses at Wayne State were their finest outings of the season. Garrison Becker won his start on Sunday when the Peacocks defeated the Wildcats 7-4. LEADING THE WARRIORS... Chase Blazier had a strong outing Saturday at Concordia-St. Paul, tossing a complete game victory in a 12-3 Warrior win. He scattered seven hits in seven innings of work while allowing two earned runs and striking out a pair. Travis Evanson had a big week for the Warriors, mashing three home runs to go with 7 RBI while hitting .421 in five games last week. He capped off the weekend with a two home run, 5 RBI performance while going 2-for-3 against Concordia-St. Paul to power the Warriors to an 11-1 win. Winona State posted a 2-3 mark in five games last week. The Warriors began the week with a 10-9 midweek loss to crosstown foe Saint Mary's before splitting both days of a doubleheader at Concordia-St. Paul.
LEADING THE VIKINGS... Patrick Fiala was named the NSIC Player of the Week after leading the Vikings with a .700 batting average (14 for 20) including a double and two home runs. He had 12 RBI , 21 total bases, a 1.050 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. The Augie offense scored 61 runs last week while posting a 6-0 record. Ryan Hamilton notched his fifth complete game of the year in a 5-1 win at the Mustangs on Saturday, giving him his third victory. He went all eight innings, giving up just one run on four hits while tying career high with nine strikeouts in the victory.
