WEEKLY NOTES
UPPER IOWA | MINNESOTA DULUTH | WAYNE STATE | NORTHERN SUN

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… Upper Iowa will head out on the road for six games in just four days this week.  The Peacocks are headed to Duluth, Minn. for a double header with the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Thursday at noon.  After a quick day in Fayette, the team will then travel west to Wayne, Neb. to battle the Wildcats of Wayne State College in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.  UMD is riding a seven-game winning streak, while WSC comes into the week having won six of their last eight NSIC contests against the University of Minnesota Crookston and Augustana College.  Upper Iowa snapped a seven-game slide with a win in game two of their weekend series against Southwest Minnesota State and were three outs away from claiming a sweep over the Mustangs on Sunday before falling in the finale to split the weekend.  UIU was led by senior Adam Budron last week; the leftfielder hit .476 with 10 hits including 3 doubles for a .619 slugging percentage while driving in 6 including the winning run in game two on Saturday against SMSU.

LEADING THE BULLDOGS... Alex Wojciechowski led the Bulldog power surge that slugged 11 home runs last week hitting .636 and slugged 1.364 with 14 hits including 4 doubles and 4 longballs on the week.  He also tallied 17 RBI's and 11 runs scored.  The Bulldog firstbaseman raised his season batting average from .394 to .438 on the week.

LEADING THE WILDCATS... John Roberts extended his season-high hit streak to 15 games last week, going 9-for-19 (.474) at the plate with four runs scored.  Nathan Ackerman is hitting .365 with 50 hits including 14 doubles, 5 triples and 14 homeruns for a sluggin percentage of .847.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP... Three UIU sophomores are enjoying solid seasons for the Peacocks led by Mitch Moser, Luis Ravelo and Alex George.  Moser is hitting .382 (16th NSIC) with 52 hits (7th NSIC) and has an on-base percentage of .446 (18th NSIC).  Ravelo is hitting at a .299 clip and has scored 41 runs (3rd NSIC) while hitting 3 triples (3rd NSIC) and earning 25 walks (4th NSIC); his 14 stolen bases are second-best in the league.  George's is hitting
.355 with 54 hits (4th NSIC), the second-most on the team, and include 15 doubles (3rd NSIC).

RED, WHITE AND BLUE... A pair of redshirt freshman donned the white and Peacock blue uniforms for their first full season this year and have led the offense and pitching staff for Upper Iowa.  Jake Greco is hitting .372 with a team-high 55 hits (2nd NSIC) with 13 doubles (10th NSIC) and 8 homeruns (6th NSIC) for a slugging percentage of .635 (13th NSIC).  The UIU centerfielder is tied for the most rbi's in the Northern Sun with 46 and has scored the fourth-most runs with 40.  Ross Kulick has thrown very well as the closer for the Peacocks with just one hiccup this season.  He has a 2-1 record with 7 saves (T-1st NSIC), a new UIU program single-season record, with a 4.61 ERA over his 13.2 innings of work.

PEACOCKS-BULLDOGS REMATCH... Upper Iowa and Minnesota Duluth split a pair of non-conference baseball games on Mar. 31 in Fayette.  The Peacocks powered their way to a 14-6 victory in game one, but the Bulldogs salvaged the split by edging their hosts 9-8 in game two.  Three Peacocks were unstoppable at the plate combining for 15 hits in the two games.  Jacob Greco led the UIU hitters going 6 for 6 with two walks, a double and a homerun, driving in six runs and scoring four times.  Mitch Moser went 5 for 8 at the plate with a pair of rbi's and four runs scored; the Peacock second baseman reached base seven times thanks to a pair of Duluth errors.  Catcher/designated hitter Jacob Stenberg was 4 for 8 with a pair of doubles and a walk; he drove in one runner and scored twice.  Tyus AdkinsLuis Ravelo, and Alex George all had a pair of hits in the double header.  UIU totaled 10 extra base hits on the day with 6 doubles, a triple and three long balls.
