The Peacocks dropped game five and six in a row as the Washburn Ichabods hit six home runs and held the Peacocks to six hits over the two games. Washburn jumped out to a two-run lead in the first inning of game one on their way to a 4-0 win. Game two started with a run for side before the Ichabods put up runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the Peacocks, 9-1. The losses drop UIU to 3-10 on the year while WU moves to 11-4.
The Ichabods hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first which would prove to be enough. The Peacocks picked up a hit in the top of the second, but it would be the only hit for UIU in the game. Washburn added two more runs in the sixth to close out the game.
Riley Kruel had the lone hit for Upper Iowa and
Brooke Redmond (2-5) took the complete game loss. Redmond allowed four runs over six innings and struck out seven.Â
Game two started better for UIU, as they got three hits in the first inning, coming away with a run. The Ichabods wasted no time getting the bats going in game two, hitting their third home run of the day. Washburn added home runs in the third, fourth and sixth to run away with the game.
Erica Kirgan and
Jacqueline Flood had two hits each to lead UIU in game two, while
Taylor Bjork (0-2) took the loss.
The Peacocks will take a day off tomorrow before traveling to Maryville, Mo., to take on Northwest Missouri State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 11. The games will be at 1 and 3 p.m.Â
