GAMES 17-20 || MAR. 28-29, 2015 || FAYETTE, IOWA || ROBERTSON WOODS FIELD THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… Upper Iowa will host the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 28-29, in a four-game, Northern Sun Conference series. The Golden Eagles are coming off a four-game sweep at the hand of Concordia University, St. Paul. Upper Iowa was also swept in their opening NSIC series of the season; the Peacocks dropped four to #5 St. Cloud State University. Both teams struggled on offense over the weekend; UMC and UIU each managed just 7 runs each in their four games. The two teams met in Clearwater, Fla. on Mar. 14 with the Peacocks edging the Golden Eagles 9-8 in 14 innings.
EXTRA INNINGS IN CLEARWATER... With two outs in the 14th inning of Upper Iowa's tenth game in seven days, Jacob Stenberg doubled and advanced to third as Minnesota Crookston mishandled the cutoff. Freshman
Tyus Adkins was sent to the plate to pinch hit for the Peacocks. The Iowa City product came through in a big way with a triple to centerfield plating Stenberg and putting Upper Iowa ahead 9-8. The Golden Eagles had a pair of
singles in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't score as UIU claimed their fifth straight win.
Charley Cunningham earned the win throwing the final three innings allowing just three hits and no runs. The senior right hander struck out two batters.
SPLIT DECISION… Peacock junior
Eric Cottrell has been splitting time between left field and first base this season while starting each of UIU's 16 games. His .429 average at the plate is 10th in the Northern Sun, while his .492 on-base percentage is the 3rd highest mark in the conference. Cottrell has 5 doubles in his 24 hits this season.
FIVE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER... The Peacocks are 7-0 this season when scoring at least five runs in a game. Upper Iowa has scored in double figures four times in 2015 and is averaging 5.4 runs per game.
"KUL" UNDER PRESSURE... Redshirt freshman
Ross Kulick has taken control of the closer duties for Upper Iowa with a 1-0 record and 4 saves (1st NSIC). The DePere, Wis. native has an ERA of 2.57 in his six appearances.
SHORT SHOW... Sophomore
Luis Ravelo leads the NSIC in assists from his shortstop position with 52. He is also fourth in walks (14), fifth in triples (2) and eighth in on-base percentage (.451) among all NSIC hitters.
