Box Score The Peacock baseball team (2-4) suffered their second straight loss at the Winning Inning Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. on Tuesday. Upper Iowa held a 3-2 lead through the middle of the sixth inning, but the Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and piled on five more in the eighth to run away with the 10-3 victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored first with a run in the second inning, but the Peacocks rallied in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Three straight singles by
Mitch Moser,
Jacob Greco and
Alex George produced a run as Moser crossed the plate. Greco scored as the Panther defense committed a pair of infield errors with the bases loaded and two outs.
KWC tied the game with an unearned run in the fourth inning, but UIU was quick to answer thanks to a homerun off the bat of George with one out in the fifth inning reestablishing the Peacocks' one run lead, 3-2.
After the homerun, Upper Iowa's bats quieted recording only four hits over the final 4.2 innings of the game.
While the Peacock bats slowed, the Panther offense was catching stride. Kentucky Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then added five more in the bottom of the eighth to push out to a 10-3 advantage.
Four Peacocks tallied two hits apiece in the game including George, Greco,
Drew Woods and
Eric Cottrell. Upper Iowa had 12 hits in the game.
Zach Carstens suffered the loss after 5.2 innings on the hill. Carstens allowed four runs, three were earned, on nine hits to the Panthers.
Dan Cwiertniak recorded the final out of the sixth inning but did give up a pair of hits and one run for Kentucky Wesleyan.
Jake Barron spent 1.1 innings on the moun for Upper Iowa surrendering three runs on one hit and a pair of walks.
Matt Banks pulled mop up duty closing the game out with the final two outs; although, he did allow two runs on four hits.

The Peacocks will be back on the field tomorrow looking to snap their current two-game slide as they challenge the Mansfield Mountaineers (10 a.m.) and the Tifin Dragons (2 p.m.) tomorrow in a pair of nine-inning games.
