The Peacock women's basketball program and Head Coach
Carol Russell announced the signing of Bekka Pierson of Waverly-Shell Rock High School to a National Letter of Intent. The 6-2 post player just kicked off her senior campaign with a 20-point, 8-rebound effort in the Go-Hawks season-opening win.
"
I am really excited to have Bekka join our Peacock family," said Russell. "She will bring an inside presence to UIU on both ends of the floor. Bekka also has the ability to extend the defense with her shooting ability and athleticism. Not only is Bekka a solid basketball player for us, she is a great person who will enhance our culture on and off the court."
Pierson played in 45 games for Waverly-Shell Rock as a sophomore and junior scoring 180 points and grabbing 118 rebounds while shooting 47.9% (70-146) from the floor. The Shell Rock native was part of the 2015 squad that won the Northeast Iowa Conference championship and earned a spot in the Iowa Class 3A State Tournament as a quarterfinalist.
The future UIU post player is a member of the National Honor Society. Pierson has earned the IGHSAU Academic Achievement Award in each of her first three years of high school and has also received several academic awards from Waverly-Shell Rock thanks to her strong grade point average.
Bekka is the daughter of Joyce and Bryant Pierson and will major in elementary education.
