Poor Shooting Peacocks Fall in Winona

The Peacock men’s basketball team fell to the Winona State Warriors, 81-65, in Winona, Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. The loss evens the season series between to two teams, with each squad picking up a victory on their home floor.

The Peacock men's basketball team fell to the Winona State Warriors, 81-65, in Winona, Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. The loss evens the season series between to two teams, with each squad picking up a victory on their home floor.
 
Upper Iowa (6-9, 2-4 NSIC) had a season-low with 65 points and shot just 17-of-67 (25.4%) overall, while Winona State (5-5, 4-2 NSIC) was 25-of-52 (48.1%) from the floor. The Warriors won the battle on the boards as they outrebounded the Peacocks 48-38 and outscored UIU 26-12 in the paint.
 
Carson Parker led Upper Iowa with 20 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, while adding 9 rebounds. Jimmy Roth picked up the first Peacock double-double since No. 15, 2014 with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Lenhart added 12 points.
 
At the 7:09 mark in the first half, a Jimmy Roth layup made it 17-17. Over the remainder of the opening half the Warriors outscored UIU 15-7, including an 11-2 run, to take a 32-24 halftime lead.
 
To start the second half, Lenhart and Parker sandwiched 3-pointers around a Jarrod Gamble layup to tie the game at 37-37 with 17:08 left in the game. The Warriors responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead over the next two and a half minutes. Winona State pushed the lead to double digits by the 10 minutes mark and led by as many as 19.
 
Upper Iowa begins the Holiday break following the game, but will be back in Dorman Gym for a pair of home games on Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3. The game on Jan. 2 will be against Minnesota State Moorhead at 6 p.m., followed by the game on Jan. 3 against Northern State at 4 p.m.
