The #2 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University, the 2014 NCAA Division II runner-up is getting ready to take another run into the NCAA postseason in a few weeks. SMSU controlled their match with Upper Iowa winning in straight sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-15) to claim their 14th straight win and improving to 23-3 overall and 16-2 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa fell to 14-13 overall and 8-10 in the conference.
Upper Iowa registered just 22 kills while hitting .046 on the afternoon, while their hosts put down 45 kills while hitting .282 from the floor.
The Peacocks got 5 kills from
Lauren Wombles and
Sarah Frisch.
Malissa LeClaire and
Jenna Hermsen each registered 9 assists, while
Ashley Larson led the backline with 9 digs.
The Mustangs were led by Taylor Riess and Abby Thissen, who registered 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Megan Larson paced the Mustang attack with 42 assists and Whitney Burmeister picked up 14 digs.
UIU will close out the regular season at home this coming Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14. The Peacocks will host the #3 Wildcats of Wayne State College on Friday at 7 p.m. and the #20 Vikings of Augustana University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
