THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER

In quite possibly the biggest match in program history, No. 20 Upper Iowa will play at No. 25 Fort Hays State in the final game of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 6. The Peacocks currently sit atop the MIAA conference standings at 5-2 with 15 points, while FHSU is 3-2-1 and has 10 points, but two games left to play. Should the UIU tie or win against the Tigers, they will earn at least a share of the conference title for the first time in school history. Also on the line on Friday will be a spot in the NCAA National Tournament. UIU was second in the most recent NCAA Central Region rankings, while Fort Hays State was first. The top two teams in the region will meet in the NCAA Round of 16 at the home of the top team from the Midwest Region, which is currently Rockhurst. Upper Iowa is 0-5-1 all-time against Fort Hays State, including a 3-2 loss earlier this season in Fayette.

LAST WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER

This past week, Upper Iowa (12-3-1, 5-2 MIAA) defeated Lindenwood 2-1 under the lights on Saturday in St. Charles, Missouri.

RANKINGS SUMMARY

The Peacocks men's soccer team team moved up five spots in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Poll and have claimed the top spot in the NSCAA Central Region Poll. In the NCAA Central Region rankings, UIU improved one spot up to No. 2, sitting behind Fort Hays State.

KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

1     REVENGE MATCH:
When the Peacocks and Tigers met in Fayette, UIU had a 2-0 lead at halftime. FHSU came back to score three second half goals and beat the Peacocks, 3-2.

2      RECORD SETTING SEASON: UIU has made the most of their 2015 season, acomplishing many firsts and setting new team marks. The Peacocks defeated Northeastern State (twice) and Lindenwood for the first time in school history. UIU won 12 matches, setting a new record for the most wins in a single-season in school history. Upper Iowa reached as high as No. 12 in the National Polls and No. 1 in the Central Region, both the highest in the school's history.

3      LEAN ON LEANDRO: The Peacocks have been waiting for their two-time All-Central Region player, Leandro Pena, to break out this season. After being held without a point for the first 12 matches of the season, Pena has found the back of the net in two of the last three matches, both of which were game-winning goals.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT

vs. FORT HAYS STATE: The Tigers are 11-4-1 this season and 3-2-1 in conference play. FHSU beat UIU 3-2 on Oct. 8, which started a five match unbeaten streak for the Tigers. That streak ended last Sunday when Fort Hays State fell to Northeastern State 3-2.
