Kieffer led the Peacocks over the weekend averaging 19.5 points and 9 rebounds including 29 points against Missouri Western State University. Midway through her scoring binge on Saturday, the senior from Scales Mound, Ill. broke the all-time scoring mark at Upper Iowa. UIU Hall of Famer Vicky (Ringeberg) Rarick (1995-99) held the record with 1,431 points and fellow Hall of Famer Walida (Hawkins) Hewitt (1993-97) was in second with 1,424. Entering the game on Saturday, Kieffer needed just 13 points to tie the all-time mark. UIU's four-year starter has now scored 1,447 points just two games into her final season.
COMEBACK CARLY… Junior center
Carly Pagel is also coming back from a redshirt season due to injury. The Sumner, Iowa product started the season off right at the Applebee Classic hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University. OPENING WEEKEND RECAP… Upper Iowa lost a pair of games at the Applebee Classic in Marshall, Minnesota over the weekend, but the team played well defensively and held the lead in the second half in both games. UIU led #10 Fort Hays State University by one heading into the fourth quarter, but a scoring drought over the final five minutes led to their 74-62 loss. On Saturday, the Peacocks took a slim lead into the locker room at halftime over Missouri Western State University, but the Griffons controlled the third quarter and the Peacocks couldn't recover losing 89-80. UIU shot 46.5% from the floor in the two games, but 54 turnovers limited the teams' scoring opportunities. The Peacocks outscored their opponents 70-63 in the first half, but lost the second halves 100-72 over the weekend.
