Beavers Steal One Late From Peacocks

Upper Iowa fell to the Bemidji State 1-0 on Sunday afternoon with the Beavers scoring in the game's final 4 minutes.

The Peacocks women's soccer team fell to the Bemidji State Beavers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon as the Beavers scored from a free kick with a little more than three minutes left in the game.

With the loss, UIU moves to 7-7-2 overall and 6-6-1 in the Northern Sun. The Peacocks are now tied for eighth in the NSIC standings with next week's opponent Concordia-St. Paul, but are only three points away fifth in the standings. The top eight teams make the conference tournament.

In a scoreless first half, both teams had their share of quality opportunities, but each chance was thwarted by the opponent.

The second half, however, moved a bit slower as each team ratcheted up their backline and played solid defense.

With 3:11 left in the game, the Beavers earned a free kick just outside the Peacock's penalty box. On the set piece, Bemidji State sophomore Miranda Famestad drove a shot low to the bottom corner of the net for the game's lone goal.

The Peacocks took 11 shots in the second half and 16 in the game compared to 11 for the Beavers, but couldn't finish their opportunities. Madie Edwards had four shots and placed three on frame to lead UIU, while Kaitlyn Emanuel made seven saves.

The Peacocks will host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Oct. 30 at Pattison Field in their final home game of the 2015 season. UIU will then travel to Mankato, Minnesota for their final match of the year against Minnesota State on Sunday, Nov. 1.
