The Peacock women's soccer program fell 2-0 to the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles scored both goals in the second half despite being outshot 16-4 in the final 45 minutes. UIU moved to 7-6-2 on the year and 6-5-1 in conference with the loss, while the Golden Eagles improved 6-8-1 and 6-6 with the win.
In a back-and-forth first half, each team had a quality chance to score, but neither team could convert their opportunities and the game was 0-0 after the first half.
UMC scored early in the second half on a long strike that was placed into the top right corner of the net. The Peacocks pushed hard for the game-tying goal, putting 16 shots on goal in the second half, but came up empty.
Minnesota Crookston added a second goal in the final 10 minutes on a corner kick.
Madie Edwards and
Lauren Sharp led the Peacocks with four shots each, while
Nicole Poirier had three and
Christiana Atteberry had two.
UIU returns to Pattison Field on Sunday, Oct. 25 for a match against Bemidji State at 2 p.m. The game will follow the Upper Iowa men's soccer team.
