Upper Iowa Makes it Three Straight with Sweep of Minot State

Peacocks 3 - Beavers 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17). Upper Iowa spread out the offense and Taylor Williams held down the backline to propel UIU to their third straight win and fourth win in their last five matches.

The Peacock volleyball team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday with a three-set victory over Minot State University on the road.  Upper Iowa won all six sets it played this weekend and is currently riding a nine-set streak over its last three matches after rallying from a 2-0 deficit last Saturday.  UIU's win over the Beavers marked the third straight victory for the team and fourth in its last five matches to improve to 11-9 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC.

Upper Iowa's offense recorded 12 or more kills in each of their three sets winning by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.  The Peacock offense ran through their two setters; Malissa LeClaire posted 20 assists, while Jenna Hermsen handed out 17 helpers.  Kelsey Hinrichs led the team in kills with 12, while Jennifer Mundt had 9.  Miranda LeJeune, Bethany Lovhaug (pictured above courtesy of Sean Arbut, Minot State Athletics) and Lauren Wombles all had 5 kills, while Sarah Frisch recorded 4.

Defensively, Taylor Williams was a rock on the backliine for the Peacocks.  The senior libero registered 22 digs to go along with her 25 on Friday night for a total of 47 (7.8/set) over the weekend.  Wombles got her hands on 11 digs, while Hinrichs added 10.  At the net, Wombles denied 5 attacks and Sarah Frisch sent back 4 Beaver kill attempts.

After the match, Head Coach Aaron Nelson said, "This was a solid weekend on the road.  It's always difficult playing away from home in the NSIC and even more so when you cross two states go get to your opponent. We did a great job playing our style, taking care of the little things and battling as a team to get two three-set sweeps."

Upper Iowa has a quick turnaround this week. The Peacocks will line up against #25 Winona State University on Tuesday night in Winona, Minn.  UIU upset the Warriors on Sept. 22 in Fayette.  Upper Iowa will return home this coming Friday and Saturday, October 23-24, for a pair of NSIC matches against Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Crookston.
