The Peacock men's soccer team earned its second straight 4-0 victory when they defeated the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield on Wednesday afternoon. UIU had four different players find the back of the net, with two goals in each half. Upper Iowa improved to 9-2-1 on the season and remained a perfect 7-0-1 in non-conference play.
Upper Iowa outshot the Illinois Springfield 18-3 on the day and had three players score their first goals of the year.
Ryan Pinkerton got the Peacocks on the board 24 minutes into the game with his fourth goal of the year on a
Johnny McBeth assist. UIU made it 2-0 when
Rafael Pedroso got his first goal of the season, aided by McBeth and Pinkerton assist.
In the second half, the Peacocks added two more goals as
Jason Bishop and
Logan Dahnert netted their first goals of the year. Bishop got a cross from the left corner from
Chad Peterson and ripped it just under the bar to make it 3-0 with 13 minutes left. Then eight minutes later, Dahnert stole a pass near midfield and dribbled all the way down the field and scored his first career Peacock goal.
Goalkeeper Ludin Gonzalez improved to 2-1 between the pipes this year and earned his second clean sheet of the season.
Leandro Pena and
Joaquin Alonso led UIU with three shots each.
The Peacocks will travel to Springfield, Illinois, for a neutral site game against Oakland City University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
