The Peacock men's soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime to the Oakland City Mighty Oaks on Sunday afternoon in a game played in Springfield, Ill.
The loss drops UIU to 9-3-1 on the year and marks the first time the Peacocks had lost in non-conference play this season.
Upper Iowa surrendered an early goal to the Mighty Oaks and went to the halftime break down 1-0.
Early in the second half, senior
Sebastian Smith got his head on a
Gabriel Caetano corner kick to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of the half and the game went to overtime.
After a scoreless first extra period, the Mighty Oaks took advantage of an opportunity in the second overtime on a through ball and scored to end the game.
UIU outshot OCU 19-7 in the match led by
Johnny McBeth, who had four shots, while a trio of Peacocks had three.
Connor Rortvedt made three saves in goal.
Upper Iowa will host #17 Northeastern State on Friday, Oct. 23.
