THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WRESTLING… Upper Iowa hits the mats twice again this week with a dual on the road in Marshall, Minn. against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday at 7 p.m. and a home dual with the Beavers of Minot State University on Sunday at 2 p.m. UIU has opened their run for the 2014-15 NSIC title with three straight wins. After a come-from-behind victory at Minnesota State University Moorhead (21-18), the Peacocks dominated a pair of home duals last weekend over the University of Mary (45-0) and Northern State University (48-3). UIU won 19 of the 20 matches including eight by fall last weekend.
PEACOCKS IN THE POLLS... Despite going 3-0 in Northern Sun duals including a pair of dominating results since the last NWCA Top 20 Poll, the Peacocks have dropped four spots in the latest poll released Wednesday (Jan. 28) afternoon. Upper Iowa is currently ranked 10th in the NWCA Top 20 Poll, but have added a fourth individual that is ranked in the top 8 in the nation. The ranked Peacocks are

Blake Sorensen (184, #6) and
Logan Hopp (HWT, #6).
ALUMNI DAY ON SUNDAY... The Peacock wrestling program will welcome back their alumni on Sunday. The Alumni Day events will begin at noon with an Alumni Social in the Dorman Gym Suite prior to those in attendance being recognized on the mat prior to the dual with Minot State. SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS... The Mustangs are 6-6 overall with a 1-2 mark in the NSIC. SMSU earned their lone conference win on Wednesday at Northern State (31-10), but have lost to Augustana (38-6) and Minnesota State (29-9). Leading the Mustangs is heavyweight Cole Wilson, who has a 24-3 record with 10 wins by fall and a pair of major decisions.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS... The Beavers are 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the Northern Sun thanks to wins over U-Mary (31-12) and Northern State (27-18). The loss for Minot State came at Minnesota State University, Mankato (39-7). The Beavers will face off against #2 St. Cloud State University on Saturday before heading south to Fayette. Minot State is led by their heavyweight Mitchell Eull. Eull is a sophomore who has posted a 21-10 mark with 6 wins by fall.
GOING FOR THE BONUS... This season officials have raised Upper Iowa wrestler's hands 369 times at the end of matches. The Peacocks are claiming victories in 59.4% of their matches. More impressive is the ratio of bonus-point wins for Upper Iowa so far this campaign. The Peacocks have recorded 164 wins by fall, 13 by technical fall and 37 by major decision. The 214 bonus-point wins leave Upper Iowa with 133 wins by decision and 22 wins by forfeit, medical forfeit or injury default. UIU is scoring bonus points in 57.9% of their matches this season.
Blake Sorensen leads the varsity competitors with 11 falls, while
Jordan Rinken leads the team in bonus-point victories with 13 including 7 by fall, 4 by tech fall and 2 by major decision.
