Box Score Records:Upper Iowa (1-0-1) | South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (0-2)Recap:The Peacock men's soccer team earned their first win of the season with a
1-0 victory over the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Jared Newman scored the lone goal for Upper Iowa 22 minutes into the game.
Greg Marshall played a through ball that Newman was able to run onto, giving him a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Newman slipp the ball past goalkeeper and into the net to give the Peacocks the lead.
Connor Rortvedt started in goal for the Peacocks, making six saves on the way to his first career shutout.
Marshall finished the weekend with a goal and two assists, factoring in on all three Upper Iowa goals.
Newman and
Leandro Pena led the UIU with three shots each, as the team out-shot the Hardrockers 11 to 9.
According to Head Coach Jason Carlson..."We got the win, and I think getting the shutout was equally as valuable, especially after giving up a couple goals the nights before. It was encouraging for the guys. It was a good trip for the guys to get out of there without a loss."
