Peacock Hat Trick; UIU Defeats St. Cloud State for Third Straight Win

Upper Iowa scored three goals in a win and posted a shutout for the third straight NSIC match to improve to 3-2 in the NSIC.

Upper Iowa controlled play in their NSIC women's soccer matchup against St. Cloud State University Sunday afternoon in Fayette.  The Peacocks posted a 3-0 victory for the third straight match and improved to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.  The home team scored a pair of goals in the first half and continued to press in the second half adding one more and running their win streak to three.

The Peacocks earned a corner kick in the 25th minute and Aimee Wronski served the ball into the box.  The ball squirmed through a scrum in front of the goal where it jumped up and found the head of Madie Edwards.  Edwards put the ball in the back of the net and UIU had their first goal of the day.  Thanks to a foul in the box after Upper Iowa got loose in transition, Aimee Wronski finished off a penalty kick to push UIU's lead to 2-0 with less than a minute to play.  UIU only outshot their guests 7-6 in the first half, but made the most of their chances.

In the 66th minute, Brianne Fenton gathered in the ball and found Corinne Wronski down the right side at midfield.  Wronski took the ball downfield and began to cross into the center.  Without much resistance, she pushed the ball just inside the box, settled it and then drove a rocket to the top shelf over the Husky goalkeeper for Upper Iowa's third and final goal.

"This weekend was big for us," said Head Coach Brian Diaz.  "We played well through our tough start and now we are continuing to play well, but we are being rewarded for our hard work with goals.  We love playing here at home in the friendly confines of Pattison Field.  The fans and parents are great and we are excited that we get to stay home for next weekend's matches.  We traveled a lot early on so it's nice to be home for an extended time.  The defenders played really well today and deserved their third straight shutout."

For the match, UIU took 20 shots putting 9 on frame, while SCSU shot 14 times placing 7 on goal.  Kaitlyn Emanuel made 6 saves to earn her third win and shutout in a row.

During the Peacocks' current win streak, the team has taken 58 shots with 22 aimed on goal.  Upper Iowa has registered 9 goals in 270 minutes without allowing the ball into their own net.
