GAME NOTES

UPPER IOWA || AUGUSTANA || ST. CLOUD STATE || NORTHERN SUN CONFERENCE

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL...  The Peacocks were scheduled to host the Vikings of Augustana College on Tuesday this week, but snow Sunday night along with cold temps predicted forced the double header to switch sites and will put the Vikings as the visitors on their own field in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The NSIC twin bill is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.  Just like last week, UIU is scheduled for six games in four days this week.  Upper Iowa will quickly turn around and get ready for a four-game series against the #9 Huskies of St. Cloud State University on Thursday and Friday.  The four tilts are all to be played in St. Cloud but more winter weather in Minnesota this week may force a change to those plans as the teams get closer to the end of the week.

LAST WEEK FOR THE VIKINGS... Tony Viger continued his dominant season at the plate this past week helping guide the Vikings to a 5-0 record. Viger recorded three hits and two RBI in a two-game sweep of rival Sioux Falls on Wednesday. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native really had it going during the three-game sweep of Minnesota Duluth over the weekend. Viger picked up seven hits in the sweep of the Bulldogs. For the week, Viger hit .454 (10-22), drove in 6 RBI and scored four runs.  Michael Letkewicz picked up his team-leading fifth win on the year for the Vikings. Letkewicz went five innings on Sunday in an 11-3 win against UMD striking out 10 batters.

LAST WEEK FOR THE #9 HUSKIES... The Huskies tallied a weekend sweep over the USF Cougars winning 10-3 and 2-0 on Friday and then 6-0 and 3-1 on Saturday. Chris Kubitz earned the NSIC Pitcher of the Week award after he pitched a complete game, seven inning shutout for the Huskies on Saturday in game one to earn a 6-1 win striking out 12 batters. With the win he moves his record to 4-1 on the season. Kubitz went six of seven innings without giving up a hit and only allowed one in the game. On the season, Kubitz holds a 1.69 earned run average in 37.1 innings of work for St. Cloud.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT… Seniors Tyler Adams and Jose Aguirre are having great seasons at the plate that have put them in the national spotlight.  Adams leads the team with a .494 batting average (2nd NCAA, 1st NSIC), while Aguirre is just behind at .482 (3rd NCAA, 2nd NSIC).  The pair has combined for 67 hits, with Adams accounting for 40.  Aguirre is the nation's leader in on-base percentage at .595, while Adams ranks 15th nationally and 2nd in the conference (.522).  Both players are also in the top-25 in the country in slugging percentage with Adams ahead of Aguirre for 8th place nationally and 1st in the NSIC with a mark of .728; Aguirre's .679 ranks 22nd in the country and 4th in the conference.

HIGH FIVE… Adams (#5), UIU's three-year starting centerfielder, carries a .409 career batting average heading into the week with 190 hits over his three-plus seasons with UIU.  The Onalaska, Wis. native has also hit safely in 29 straight games going back 8 games into the 2013 season.
