LIVE VIDEOTHIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… Upper Iowa begins the final quarter of their regular season on Friday and Saturday at Concordia University, St. Paul. With 30 games (10-20, 3-13 NSIC) in the books, the Peacocks will look to make a final stand in their last 10 games over the next week and a half. UIU faces the Golden Bears in a four-game series before hosting Wayne State College for a double header on Wednesday and Winona State for two on Friday. The Peacocks and Warriors of WSU will head back to Winona, Minn. on Saturday for the regular season finales.
TUESDAY TROUBLE… The Bulldog pitching staff held the Peacock batters to just eight hits on Tuesday while sweeping a pair of NSIC games by scores of 4-0 and 5-4 in eleven innings. UMD scored all four runs in game one in a single frame with two outs and slowly chipped away at a 4-1 UIU lead in game two forcing extra innings and finally defeating Upper Iowa in the eleventh. The Bulldogs got the walk-off win by virtue of being the home team; the games were to be played in Duluth prior to shifting south due to field conditions. The highlight of the day for Upper Iowa came in Tyler Adams third at bat when he singled to centerfield for his 200th career hit.
A LOOK AT THE GOLDEN BEARS… Concordia has only played two home games this season, a pair of wins last Tuesday against Minnesota Crookston in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played in Crookston, Minn. The Golden Bears are coming off a double header sweep of Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. after dropping three of four over the weekend to Bemidji State.
THE SERIES… The Golden Bears are 15-10 against Upper Iowa with a 3-3 record at home against the Peacocks. Concordia has won five straight against UIU including last year's four game series sweep in Fayette, Iowa.
REGULAR SEASON WRAPS NEXT WEEK... The Peacocks will wrap up the regular season next week with four home games and a quick trip to Winona, Minn. for the final two games. Upper Iowa will host the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Wednesday, Apr. 30, and the Warriors of Winona State University on Friday, May 2, before heading north to Winona State for a rematch on Saturday, May 3.
