Recap

The Bulldog pitching staff held the Peacock batters to just eight hits on the day while sweeping a pair of NSIC games by scores of 4-0 and 5-4 (11).  UMD scored all four runs in game one in a single frame and slowly chipped away at a 4-1 UIU lead in game two forcing extra innings and finally defeating Upper Iowa in the eleventh.  The Bulldogs got the walkoff win by virtue of being the home team; the games were to be played in Duluth prior to shifting south due to field conditions.  The highlight of the day for Upper Iowa came in Tyler Adams third at bat when he singled to centerfield for his 200th career hit.

Game One

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with two outs in the fourth inning.  UMD loaded the bases with a pair of walks around an infield single.  With two outs, a fly ball to shallow left field nearly was caught by a diving Cody Booker to escape the jam, but the ball safely and plated two Peacocks.  The two-run single by Beau Goff was followed by a two-run double by Jimmy Heck to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead heading to the fifth inning.

Upper Iowa threatened with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fifth, but came up empty.  After Cody Heiman walked, Tyler Adams registered his 200th hit as a Peacock with a single to centerfield.    Booker was hit by a pitch for the second time to load the bases.  A ground ball ended the inning on a force at second.

The Peacocks put runners on first and second with just one out in the seventh thanks to singles by Adam Budron and Adams.  A flyout and a strikeout ended the rally as UMD posted the 4-0 victory.

Bo Hellquist picked up the win with five innings of work on the mound shutting out the Peacocks on just two hits.

Jake Barron took the loss for UIU with 3.2 innings of work allowing four runs on four hits.  Dan Cwertniak pitched well in relief going 2.1 innings without allowing a run or hit to the Bulldogs.

At the plate, Adams had two of UIU's four hits.

Game Two

UMD scored a run in the second inning to go ahead 1-0, but the Peacocks rallied with two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.  Citro doubled with one out and UIU loaded the bases after a walk to Luis Ravelo and a single by Adams.  Budron hit a sharp grounder to first that would drove in one run and the second run came across on a throwing error by the Bulldog first baseman as he attempted to throw home after getting the out at first.

Upper Iowa added another pair of runs in the fourth on just one hit and two Bulldog errors.  Dobson singled to open the inning and moved to second on a throwing error on UIU's first sac bunt of the inning by Stenberg.  Eric Cottrell moved both runners into scoring position with a sac bunt for the first out.  Sam Kortes earned an rbi on a sac fly to right field that plated Dobson.  On the play, UMD committed their second thowing error attempting to catch Stenberg advancing to third; the ball rolled away and allowed UIU's catcher to scamper home.

The Bulldogs tied the game, 4-4, with single runs in three separate innings.  In the fourth and sixth, UMD took advantage of three hits in each of the innings for runs, while getting a triple to plate a leadoff hit batsmen to tie the contest.

In the top of the eleventh inning, Upper Iowa loaded the bases thanks to three straight walks with two outs, but a grounder got the forceout at third.

The Bulldogs got a leadoff single from Alex Wojciechowski and then added a walk, sac bunt and an intentional walk to load the bases with one out.  Ryan Lakin came through with a single through a drawn-in infield for the game-winning hit.

Colton Sinning picked up the victory recording the final out in the top of the eleventh and was the pitcher of record when the Bulldogs took the lead.

Jordan Kearns suffered the loss throwing the eleventh for UIU allowing the run on two hits.  Moser started the game and threw well allowing 3 runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings.  Anthony Ruden worked 4.1 innings of relief allowing a run on 3 hits.
