Recap

A six-run inning late in today's Peacock baseball game allowed UIU to rally from a one-run deficit for an 11-4 victory over Ohio Valley University. The Fighting Scots led 4-3 with two innings to go, but the Peacocks sent ten men to the plate in the top of the eighth and scored six runs to take a five-run lead.

Anthony Ruden (2-0), who came on in relief of starter Dan Cwertniak, earned the win after getting the Peacocks out of a jam in the bottom of the fifth and then shutting out the Fighting Scots over his final three innings. Cwertniak threw 4.2 innings allowing the four runs. Sawyer Balek threw a perfect ninth inning for UIU.

Trailing 1-0, the Peacocks scored a pair of runs in the top of the third when John Dobson picked up a run batted in on a hard hit ball to second base and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Citro. Sam Kortes and Tyler Adams both scored runs in the inning.

OVU scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and looked for more, but Cwertniak got the team out of a jam stranding two runners in scoring position. The Fighting Scots took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of hits.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Mitch Moser singled and while stealing second advanced to third on a wild throw from the catcher. Kortes chased Moser home with an rbi-single cutting the gap to one run, 4-3.

UIU exploded in the eighth inning thanks to five hits and a pair of walks to not only take the lead, but push their advantage to five runs, 9-4. Moser drove Eric Cottrell in to tie the game and then scored on a double by Kortes. Dobson sent Kortes across the plate with a single up the middle and moved to third thanks to back-to-back walks that loaded the bases. Alex George closed out the scoring in the inning with a bases-clearing double to give UIU their five-run lead.

The Peacocks tacked on two more runs in the ninth as Adams earned an rbi with a single and then UIU got their final run on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to set the final score at 11-4.
