THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... Upper Iowa is on the road for the remainder of their season as they open play in the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament this week. The Peacocks, the South Division's seventh seed, will head to Minot State University for their first round match up against the second-seeded Beavers from the North Division. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.

JANUARY'S EARLY MATCHUP WITH THE BEAVERS... Minot State University shot over 57% from the floor and 50% from deep on Friday night as all five starters for the Beavers scored in double figures. The balanced scoring by Upper Iowa's guests spoiled a great night from senior point guard Sam Thrapp, who registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. The Beavers took the victory by ten points, 77-67, to earn their tenth win of the season.

CLOSING IN ON HISTORY... Junior Whitney Kieffer has averaged over 22 points per game over the last three contests for Upper Iowa. Kieffer also adds 5 rebounds, 2.2 steals (5th NSIC) and 1.8 assists per game for the Peacocks. The 5'9" guard has scored 1,392 points. Kieffer is now just 39 points shy of the all-time leader in points, Hall of Famer Vicky (Ringeberg) Rarick (1995-99) with 1,431. In second place is Hall of Famer Walida (Hawkins) Hewitt (1993-97) with 1,424.

AT HOME IN THE DOME... The Minot State Dome has been a tough place for MISU opponents to play this season as they Beavers are 13-2 on their home court. The only losses came to No. 14 Wayne State College (Jan. 4) and St. Cloud State University (Jan. 18). In games played at the Dome, MISU is outscoring their opponents on average 77.3 to 67.8. The 13 home wins is the most a MISU women's basketball team has had in a season since the Beavers went a perfect 15-0 at home in the 2010-11 season.

LAST WEEKEND IN DORMAN...Upper Iowa nearly pulled off a big upset on Friday night but foul trouble sparked a Viking rally as Augustana escaped with a 97-93 victory. On Saturday, the #11 Wildcats of Wayne State used their shutdown defense to hold the Peacocks off the scoreboard for the first eight minutes while building a double-digit lead. WSC won the game 78-56. Carly Pagel led the team with a 20 point average and 6.5 rebounds per game, while Kieffer added 17 points a contest. The team honored their lone senior, Sam Thrapp, after Saturday's game; she averaged 11.5 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds per game.
