Box Score The Upper Iowa men's soccer team saw their season come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Northeastern State. The RiverHawks defeated the Peacocks for the third time this season, with two of the three games decided by one goal.
The game started with both teams alternating opportunities to get on the board. In the game's 19th minute, UIU took three shots, two of which were blocked before the third shot was sent over the net. The next shot on goal put the RiverHawks up 1-0. At the 21:43 mark, senior midfielder Jordan Schmoker took a pass from freshman forward Ricardo Palomino down the right side and Schmoker took a low shot that beat UIU goalkeeper
Connor Rortvedt.
A little less than 20 minutes later, NSU struck again. Freshman forward Justin Todd took a shot that was blocked by the Peacock defense, but the ball came right back to him and he was squeeze a shot inside the left post.
The match appeared headed to halftime with the RiverHawks up 2-0 when All-MIAA First Team member
Ryan Pinkerton brought the Peacocks back within one. Thirty-nine seconds before the break, Pinkerton got the ball off a deflection at the top of the box and ripped a low shot that found the back of the net, bringing the match to 2-1, NSU.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as Upper Iowa would get. The Peacocks were held to just four shots in the second period, none of which were on net. UIU was outshot 21-11 and 7-2 in shots on goal. Rortvedt made five saves in net for Upper Iowa.
Greg Marshall led the Peacocks with three shots on goal.
UIU finished the season at 10-7-2, giving the Peacocks back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2009-10. Upper Iowa also made it to the MIAA conference tournament for the second consecutive season and had eight players recognized on All-MIAA teams.
