Peacocks Prepare for MIAA Tournament

UIU heads to Olathe, Kansas for a conference tournament match against Northeastern State

This week in Peacock men's soccer… Upper Iowa (10-6-2, 6-5-1 MIAA) heads to its second consecutive MIAA tournament. They will play in the semifinal match against Northeastern State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The RiverHawks of Northeastern State are 14-3-1 this season and 11-0-1 in MIAA play. NSU comes into Thursday unbeaten in their last seven matches, which started with a win against Upper Iowa, 4-1, on Oct. 11. The Peacocks are 0-4 all-time against Northeastern State.

Peacocks Honored... Eight members of the Upper Iowa men's soccer team were honored as all conference recipients in the MIAA. Leandro Pena and Ryan Pinkerton were named to the All-MIAA First Team, while Johnny McBeth was named to the All-MIAA Second Team and Connor Rortvedt, Hugo Alves, Sebastian Smith, Rhys Williams and Fausto Ordenana all garnered All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors.

Overcoming Overtime... The Peacocks finally broke through the overtime jinx they had hanging over their heads all season with a win over Harding last Saturday. Prior to that victory, UIU had been 0-3-2 in games that needed an extra period.

Penalty Kicks Equal Wins… Junior outside back Rhys Williams has scored four goals this year, all on penalty kicks. The Cambridge, England native has taken six PKs on the year and the Peacocks are 5-0 in those games.

Last week for the RiverHawks… Northeastern State continued its unbeaten streak with a pair of wins. The RiverHawks defeated Ouachita Baptist 3-1 on the road, scoring twice early then putting the game away with a late goal. NSU then beat Southwest Baptist at home 5-0, scoring four times in the first half.
