Box Score On Senior Day, the Peacocks won their eighth straight, 2-0, in a battle against Southwest Minnesota State, who was a half game behind UIU in the conference standings and one spot ahead of Upper Iowa in the NSCAA regional rankings,
It was a pair of seniors who would get the Peacocks on the board first.
Kali Loescher took a pass in the box from
Aimee Wronski and scored just 8:47 into the game.
The Mustangs nearly tied the game at 1-1 late in the first half. Junior forward Miranda Cadena got behind the Peacock defense but goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Emanuel charged out of net to shut down the SMSU chance and help UIU go into half with the lead.
Just two minutes into the second half, UIU's seniors stepped up again. This time
Corinne Wronski found her sister Aimee on a through ball, and Aimee was able to rip a shot past the charging Mustang goalkeeper to put the Peacocks up 2-0.
Both teams would have more chances in the remainder of the half, but neither would get on the board and the game ended at 2-0.
The Peacocks saw quality play in the back line from seniors
Danielle Weiss and
Jess Dickhaus, who limited the opportunities for the SMSU offense. UIU outshot the Mustangs 20-16. Aimee Wronski led the way for the Peacocks with seven shots, while
Madie Edwards had five and Loescher took three. Emanuel made eight saves in her fourth shutout of the year.
