Recap

The Peacock volleyball team wrapped up their play in the UW-Parkside Tournament with a split thanks to a five-set win against the Golden Knights of Gannon College. Upper Iowa was swept by the host Rangers to close to the tournament on Saturday.

The Peacocks came out well against Gannon taking the first set 25-18 on the back of 17 kills. The Golden Knights rallied with a 25-23 win in the second set before Upper Iowa once again held their opponent to 18 points in the third set. UIU got the third set win by seven points despite hitting .095 after holding Gannon to just .028 hitting. The Peacocks dropped set four 25-23, but claimed the match victory in the fifth set with a 15-11 win. The Peacock offense seemed to be in step for most of the match registering 66 kills on their 113 points. UIU's defense also played well with 81 digs and 9 team blocks.

Against the Rangers, the Peacock attack struggled to produce as it had earlier in the day. UIU was limited to just 27 kills and a .064 hitting percentage for the match. UW-Parkside swept the match by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20. UWP jumped out to early leads in the first two sets including a 14-3 lead in the first set and a 15-4 lead in the second set. In the third set, UIU played well early and had a 10-9 lead midway through, but the Rangers pulled away slowly for the win.

Next Up

The Peacocks have a busy week ahead, but two of their matches are in Fayette. UIU will host Waldorf College on Tuesday night in Fayette at 7 p.m. Upper Iowa will then open Northern Sun Conference play on the road at the reigning, six-time NCAA Division II Champion Concordia University-St. Paul on Thursday night at 7 p.m. UIU will return home on Saturday to host Minnesota State University, Mankato at 4 p.m. in Dorman Gymnasium.
