This Week in Peacock Baseball...  After ten straight home games cancelled due to weather and field conditions and a delay of one day this week... the Peacocks are returning to Robertson Woods Field on Thursday for the 2013 home and Northern Sun Conference openers.  Upper Iowa will welcome the Wolves of Northern State in a double header that was originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.  The Peacocks (7-6) have not been on the field for a game since Mar. 16 when they split a pair of nine-inning games.  Northern State (9-9, 2-2 NSIC) is coming off a weekend split with Minnesota State; the Wolves won a game on each day of the weekend with the #11 Mavericks.  After Thursday’s double header, the Peacocks will head to Kearney, Neb. for a four-game set with the Lopers.  UNK (15-13, 15-11 MIAA) is coming off a 1-2 weekend against the Hornets of Emporia State at home.

Hitting the “Mark”... Head Coach Mark Danker reached the 300-win milestone at Upper Iowa while down in Florida over spring break.  The win came in a 13-8 decision over the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College.  Danker leads the category of wins in Upper Iowa’s 118-year history of baseball after passing Rick Heller last season.  Heller posted 289 wins in his 12 seasons.  Doc Dorman won 233 games in his 58 years as the head coach, while Bill Prochaska posted 205 victories in 20 seasons as the Peacock leader.  All three men are members of the UIU Athletics Hall of Fame.

If I Could Be Like Mike... Mikey Henrichs hit .567 for Upper Iowa in Clearwater.  Henrichs racked up 17 hits including a pair of doubles in 30 at bats and added nine walks for a .683 on base percentage in Florida.  The senior spearheaded the UIU offense with 10 runs batted in and 10 runs scored; he was nearly untouchable on the base paths stealing 8 bases in 10 attempts.

“EA Sports... It’s in the Game”... Eric Anderson earned two wins on the trip improving to 3-0 on the season.  In his two starts, Anderson recorded an earned run average of 2.25 in 12 innings of work allowing just 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 16 batters.  Opponents hit just .205 against the Peacock southpaw.  Anderson also hit .385 with 5 hits in 13 at bats with an rbi and a run scored.
