This Week in Peacock Baseball...  After claiming three victories in their first weekend of baseball in the HHH Metrodome, the Peacocks will take their 3-1 record to Clearwater, Fla. for eight games.  Upper Iowa will split the Clearwater Baseball Invitational in half when they travel to the University of Tampa to play a nine-inning game on Mar. 12.  The Peacocks will open the CBI with a double header against Kentucky Wesleyan on Mar. 10 and follow it with a second double-dip against Ohio Valley on Mar. 11.  Upper Iowa will challenge Tiffin on Mar. 14 in a pair of games; all three double headers will feature two seven-inning games.  On Mar. 15, UIU will play a pair of nine-inning contests against Minnesota, Crookston and Mansfield.

Hitting the “Mark”... Head Coach Mark Danker is just one win shy of reaching the 300-win  milestone at Upper Iowa.  Danker is in his 14th year at the helm of the Peacock baseball program and has posted 299 wins.  Danker leads the category of wins in Upper Iowa’s 118-year history of baseball after passing Rick Heller last season.  Heller posted 289 wins in his 12 seasons.  Doc Dorman won 233 games in his 58 years as the head coach, while Bill Prochaska posted 205 victories in 20 seasons as the Peacock leader.  All three men are members of the UIU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Picking Up Where He Left Off... The Northern Sun named Tyler Adams the NSIC Player of the Week after UIU’s opening weekend after the Peacock centerfielder hit .571 with 8 hits in 14 at bats including a double.  He drove in six Peacocks and crossed home plate three times; the UIU centerfielder also stole a base.  Adams was selected as an American Baseball Coaches Association, or ABCA, and Rawlings First Team All-Central Region performer and also earned a First Team Gold Glove thanks to just one error in the Peacock outfield.  Adams was also named to the All-Central Region Second Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.  The Onalaska, Wis. native was named to the All-NSIC First Team and also earned a spot on the NSIC Gold Glove Team a week ago.  For the season, Adams hit .410 in 200 at bats, a new Peacock single-season record for at bats in a season.  Adams had 82 hits, five short of the single-season mark for Upper Iowa, including 10 doubles and triple while striking out only 12 times.  He scored 43 runs and drove in 28 runners and swiped 14 of 18 bases for the year making only one error in 140 chances for a .993 fielding percentage.
