THIS WEEKEND IN MEN'S BASKETBALL... Coming off their first conference victory of the season, the Upper Iowa Peacocks will look to create a new win streak this weekend. UIU will host the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State (4-4, 2-1 NSIC) on Friday night at 8 p.m. before taking on the Sioux Falls Cougars (5-2, 2-1 NSIC) on Saturday at 6 p.m.

THE SERIES... Since the 2007-08 season, the Peacocks and the Mustangs have squared off a total of 12 times, but UIU has managed just two wins in that time span. The Peacocks last defeated SMSU during the 2010-11 season as they earned a 75-74 victory at home in overtime. UIU dropped both games to SMSU last year by scores of 74-69 at home and 74-55 in Marshall, Minn. Meanwhile, the Cougars and Peacocks have met only three times in Division II play after USF joined the NSIC last year. UIU holds a 2-1 lead in the series after sweeping the two matchups last year.

PEACOCK SNAP THREE-GAME SKID... Joey Woods averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3.5 steals this past weekend for UIU as the team earned a split on the road against Minnesota State and Concordia. After dropping their matchup with MSU on Friday night in the Taylor Center, the Peacocks bounced back a night later to pick up their first win in conference play in St. Paul, Minnesota as four players finished in double-figures. Woods hit 60-percent of his shots (6-for-10) for 18 points, while Grant Lang scored a team-high 22 points on 6-of-15 shooting. The Peacocks outscored the Golden Bears by five in the second half to post the comeback victory, but it came down to the final minute. UIU hit ten straight free throws in the last minute of regulation to steal the 88-87 victory in the Gangelhoff Center. The win also marked the first conference victory for Head Coach Brooks McKowen - who will face his old team this Friday night as UIU hosts SMSU at 8 p.m.

FINAL HOME STAND OF 2013... This weekend's games against SMSU and USF are the last two home games of the year for the Peacocks. UIU will play eight games inside Dorman Gym in 2014, including the final four of the season.

"TWO PLUS ONE" EQUALS 3... Ankeny, Iowa native Grant Lang (#21) has posted three twenty-point outings this year for the Peacocks. The junior wing had 20 points in back-to-back games earlier this year against William Jewell and Missouri Western as he set a new career high. Lang then broke that mark last weekend in St. Paul, Minnesota as he scored 22 points on 6-of-15 shooting against the Golden Bears of Concordia.

HE'S NO AVERAGE "JOE-Y"... In all eight of the games Joey Woods has played in this year, the redshirt-senior has scored at least 11 points. In week 6 of the season, he's leading the team with 15.4 points per game and he's atop the charts in passing with 31 total assists. Furthermore, he's shot at or over 50-percent from the floor five times this year and in four of those games he's added at least four assists.

LEADING THE MUSTANGS... Shaun Condon (11.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.9 apg), William Giddings (11.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Vinard Birch (10.6 ppg, 3.3 apg, 1.9 rpg), Matt Zager (10.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.5 spg), Nick Smith (10.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2 bpg)

LEADING THE COUGARS... Robert Goffney (12.4 ppg, 4.4 apg, 4.7 rpg), Charles Ward (11.7 ppg, 5 rpg, 1.9 apg), Derek Brown (11.6 ppg, 2.4 apg, 2.3 rpg, 1.3 spg), Mack Johnson (10.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.1 spg)
