This Week in Peacock Football... Upper Iowa will host the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University in the tenth matchup of this rivalry that dates back to the fall of 2004. Fans of offense should be in for a treat at Harms-Eischeid Stadium as the top two offenses in the NSIC go head-to-head. The Peacocks are driven by running back Chris Smith, along with Cole Jaeschke and his talented receivers, while the Mustangs are led by their running back Tyler Tonderum, quarterback Charlie Kern and six receivers that have all pulled down more than 20 catches. The defense for Upper Iowa is led by senior Ethan Douglas, who has registered a team-high 55 tackles including 7.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks, while A.J. Page spearheads the SMSU defense with 70 tackles including 10 for loss and 5 sacks. Temperatures in the low 40's with a 10 mph wind are expected for much of the game.

The Series... Southwest Minnesota State leads the series 7-2; the Mustangs have won the last five match ups. The last two games, played in Marshall, Minn., were decided by just five points combined. The Mustangs won 28-24 in 2011 and 38-37 in 2012. Last year, SMSU erased an early 12-0 UIU lead and their quarterback rushed the ball into the endzone with 25 seconds remaining to tie the score. After a successful point-after attempt, the Mustangs claimed the one-point victory. The Peacocks took two leads in the fourth quarter, but SMSU had the ball in their hands last and converted the game-winning touchdown on fourth down from the seven-yard line. The Peacock wins came in 2004 (28-16) and in 2007 (39-27).
