THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOCCER… This week, the Peacocks will face the top team in the conference and the last team in the conference as they face the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist (0-15, 0-6 MIAA) on Thursday and the fifth-ranked Lions of Lindenwood University (12-0-1, 5-0-1 MIAA) on Saturday.

THE SERIES…  Thursday's matchup with SBU will be the fourth meeting between the squads. UIU owns a 2-1 lead in the series, which only dates back to last season.

This will also be the fourth meeting between UIU and the Lions of Lindenwood University. LU has a 3-0-1 hold on the series lead, but UIU pulled out a scoreless tie earlier this year against a Lions team that will enter this weekend as the top team in the region and the fifth team in the nation.

RECORD-SETTING WIN OVER SIMPSON … Coming off a split last week against two MIAA teams, the Peacocks honored their five seniors in their last home game of 2013. Simpson College (10-3-2, 3-2 IIAC) came to Fayette on Monday with an 8-0 series lead all-time against UIU, but the Peacocks wrote a new chapter in the record books. For the first time ever, including Division II and Division III play, the Peacocks earned a victory against the Storm thanks to a goal from Fausto Ordenana. The score was his second goal of the season and the only goal in the game. His score held as the game-winner thanks to a stifling Peacock defense. The 1-0 non-conference victory marked the very last time five seniors would take Pattison Field in a Peacock uniform. Michael HoeperSamuel VivasTroy ParkerDan Rasmussen and Jordan Bell were honored for their years of service after the game as part of the senior day festivities.

PLAYOFF PUSH… With a win on Thursday over SBU and a Harding loss to Southern Nazarene, the Peacocks are gauranteed a postseason appearance for the first time since becoming a member of NCAA Division II soccer. Harding is currently in fifth place in the conference with a 2-4 record, while UIU is in fourth place with its 3-2-1 record in MIAA play.

GOALS GALORE… Whether the team is eking out a 1-0 win over Simpson, or crushing Clarke at home 5-0, the Peacocks offense has been solid in 2013. In fact, this 2013 squad has set a school record for most goals in a season with 36. The previous record was held by the 2008 and 2000 teams with 35 goals in a single year. With two more games to play, this squad could cement their place in the record books with a solid finish.

RANKINGS RELEASE… The Peacocks held steady in fourth place in the most recent central region poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). UIU's 1-0 victory over Simpson College was not factored into the Peacocks' record. To view the full poll, click here.

Rank Team Record
1 Lindenwood 12-0-1
2 Fort Hays St. 9-2-1
3 Northeastern State (Okla.) 6-2-3
4 Upper Iowa 7-5-1

LAST WEEK… Leandro Pena and Andres Cuesta combined to earn three goals last Thursday in a 3-2 overtime victory over SNU. With Pena earning two goals and Cuesta earning one, the Peacocks now have two players with five goals or more on the same team for the first time since 2007. Both Aaron Calkins and Jared Newman are tied for second on the team with four goals each.

A day after earning their third conference victory of the 2013 season, mistakes and a sluggish start hurt the Upper Iowa on Friday night in Hays, Kansas. The Peacocks gave up two goals in the first 17 minutes of play to the nationally-ranked Tigers of Fort Hays State and despite Simone Lupi first goal of the season, UIU could not recover. The 2-1 loss marks just the second loss for UIU this year in MIAA play.

COACH'S CORNER…. More than halfway into his first season, Jason Carlson has led the Peacocks to a 8-5-1 overall record and a 3-2-1 start in the MIAA. Through 13 games, Carlson has the best record for any first-year head coach in Upper Iowa history. Furthermore, Carlson has led UIU – which is also guaranteed to finish above .500 for the first time since joining the MIAA – to their first winning season since 2011.
