Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association Match
Fayette, IA || Pattison Field || 3 p.m.
THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOCCER… After splitting their matchups against two MIAA teams this past week, the Peacocks (7-5-1, 3-2-1 MIAA) will have a quick turnaround as they host Simpson College (10-3-2, 3-2 IIAC) today on Pattison Field at 3 p.m. This game will have added significance for the five seniors on the team. Each will be playing in their last home match in their collegiate career.
THE SERIES… Monday's matchup with the Storm will be the ninth meeting between UIU and SC, but just the first since the Peacocks moved up to Division II. The Storm have dominated the series earning wins in all of the previous eight matches. SC has also held UIU to just two goals, while the Storm have totaled 73 goals against the Peacocks.
DUECES… Sophomore midfielder
Leandro Pena - number 22 - changed the entire complexion of the Peacocks game with Southern Nazarene last Thursday. Pena found the back of the net twice on two penalty kicks that gave UIU a 3-2 victory over the Crimson Storm on the road in 96 minutes of MIAA action. The win marks the team's second straight victory and third in the last four games, while giving UIU a 7-4-1 overall mark this year and a 3-1-1 start to their conference season. Pena now has five goals this season tying him for first on the team with
Andres Cuesta.
SENSATIONAL SENIORS… Monday's matchup with the Storm will mark a turning point for the Peacock program. UIU will wave goodbye to five seniors as
Troy Parker,
Jordan Bell,
Samuel Vivas,
Dan Rasmussen and
Michael Hoeper will play in their last home game in a Peacock uniform. Together, these seniors have combined to play in 174 games for UIU.
RANKINGS RELEASE… The Peacocks remained in fourth place last week in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Central Region Poll. Lindenwood leads the way with a undefeated 10-0-1 record, but that tie came against Upper Iowa back on Sept. 29 in Fayette. The newest poll, which will include the Peacocks split last week and their outcome from Monday's match with SC, will be released this Tuesday.

LAST WEEK… Leandro Pena and
Andres Cuesta combined to earn three goals last Thursday in a 3-2 overtime victory over SNU. With Pena earning two goals and Cuesta earning one, the Peacocks now have two players with five goals or more on the same team for the first time since 2007. Both Aaron Calkins and Jared Newman are tied for second on the team with four goals each.
A day after earning their third conference victory of the 2013 season, mistakes and a sluggish start hurt the Upper Iowa on Friday night in Hays, Kansas. The Peacocks gave up two goals in the first 17 minutes of play to the nationally-ranked Tigers of Fort Hays State and despite
Simone Lupi first goal of the season, UIU could not recover. The 2-1 loss marks just the second loss for UIU this year in MIAA play.
COACH'S CORNER…. More than halfway into his first season, Jason Carlson has led the Peacocks to a 7-5-1 overall record and a 3-2-1 start in the MIAA. Through 13 games, Carlson has the best record for any first-year head coach in Upper Iowa history.
