Box Score In their first crossover game of the season, the Peacocks traveled 700 miles up north to take on NSIC North foe, Minot State in Minot, North Dakota. After a halftime tie, Carly Boag proved to be too much to handle for UIU. MISU outscored Upper Iowa 44-29 in the second half on their way to a 78-63 victory. With the win, the green and red improve to 7-5 overall including 3-5 in Northern Sun play. Upper Iowa falls to 4-11 on the season and 1-7 in NSIC action.
The first half was one of runs from both teams. The Beavers ran out to an early 8-2 advantage just over 3 minutes into the game. The next six minutes, scoring was deadlocked and Minot State held their six-point advantage, 18-12. Upper Iowa battled back and tied the score at 18-18 thanks to a three-pointer from
Sam Thrapp as well as free throws from
Whitney Kieffer and
Carly Pagel.
A 12-0 run from MISU put them up 30-18 with just under six minutes to play in the first half. Then, UIU ended half with a 14-4 run of their own as the teams were even at 34-34 heading into the locker rooms. Ten of those 14 came from Kieffer as the Peacocks regained momentum.
Upper Iowa captured their first lead of the game just under two minutes into the second half of play. Thanks to a three-point play from Kieffer, UIU took a 37-36 advantage. That would be their only lead of the game, however as the Beavers took over behind the play of their Australian forward, Boag.
A 17-4 run gave MISU a 53-43 lead. Boag tallied 12 of her game-high 37 points during that second half charge. A trey from Kieffer brought the guests within five, 55-50 with 8:47 left to play. That would be the slimmest margin as Minot State led by as many as 18 on their way to the 15-point victory, 78-63.
