The Peacock volleyball team fell behind two sets to one in their match with St. Cloud State University tonight in the UIU Volleyball Fall Invite, but Upper Iowa was able to rally with wins in the final two sets to move to 2-0 on the year. Freshman
Jennifer Mundt made an impact over the final half of the match and racked up 11 kills off the bench, while starters
Melanie Behnke (15),
Hailey Brown (12) and
Kayla Wagner (10) all recorded double digit kills.
The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead after forcing the Peacocks into a -.051 hitting percentage in the first set, 25-21. UIU rebounded with a dominant second set winning by a 25-16 count thanks to a .375 hitting percentage on 12 kills and just 3 attacking errors. SCSU's offense took the lead in the third set and put UIU's backs against the wall with a 25-19 win.
Upper Iowa won a back and forth battle in the fourth set edging out their guests by a 25-23 count. In the final set, the home team picked up an early lead and maintained it down the stretch to the enjoyment of the crowd claiming the match with a 15-10 fifth set victory. UIU's defense held SCSU to a -.037 hitting percentage in the final frame.
Skylar Lesan set up the attack with 42 assists on the night and added 6 digs. Four Peacocks reached double figures in digs led by
Amanda Weiss's 13. Wagner played big at the net with 7 blocks.
The Peacocks will close out their home tournament tomorrow with two matches. Upper Iowa will play U-Mary at 2 p.m. and then match up with Lake Superior State at 7 p.m.
