The Peacocks' double header with the #18 Huskies of St. Cloud State University is being moved up to an 11 a.m. start on Wednesday. The game which had been slated for a 2 p.m. start has been moved up with the chance of rough weather tomorrow. The early start time gives the teams a better chance to get both games in.

Upper Iowa closes out the regular season this week with six home games against the top two teams in the Northern Sun starting with today’s double header against the #18 Huskies of St. Cloud State University. The Peacocks enter today’s game having won six of their last eight games after taking three of four from Northern State University and the University of Mary the last two weekends. The Huskies are coming in having won 11 straight games including weekend sweeps against the University of Minnesota, Crookston and Concordia University, St. Paul and a midweek sweep of Northern State.
A look at the NSIC Standings…
The NSIC Baseball Championships are coming up quick and the top six teams in the standings will earn a berth into the tournament. The top five spots in the tournament look to be spoken for by Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, Augustana, Wayne State and Winona State. The final spot may not be decided and earned until the final day of the season as five teams are eyeing the invitation. Upper Iowa is in sixth at 15-14, while Bemidji State sits in seventh with a 14-18 mark after a sweep versus Southwest Minnesota State yesterday. Concordia (11-15), Minnesota Duluth (12-17) and SMSU (12-18) are all still in the hunt for the final spot as well.

The Peacocks nearly pulled off an upset that would have been instrumental in giving the team’s postseason chances new life last year in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Upper Iowa fell in game one of the NSIC double header by a 1-0 count to the #11 Huskies. The home team scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the first inning to spoil an otherwise brilliant performance from UIU starter Brett Westra. In the second game, SCSU displayed their power taking a 10-3 victory and the day’s sweep.

The Peacocks will host the #5 Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (12 p.m.), May 5-6. The program will recognize and honor their seniors between games on Saturday.
