The Peacock baseball team scored eight runs in each of their two wins today as they swept a pair of NSIC games at Bemidji State University this afternoon. Upper Iowa won the first game 8-1 in support of a
Tyler Beck’s complete game on the mound and then won game two 8-4 behind timely hitting and quality pitching from three Peacock hurlers. With the two wins, UIU improves to 12-17 overall and 8-6 in NSIC games.

The Peacocks put a run on the board in the first when
Andrew Kraus doubled in
Rudy Casillas, who reached on a single to centerfield.
After the home team tied the game with a run in the second inning, the Peacocks quickly scored a run in the third when Kraus once again drove in a UIU runner. His single plated
Tyler Adams, who singled to left with one out.
The Peacocks built on their 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth thanks to an rbi by
Juve Reyes and a run-scoring double by Adams. UIU wasn’t done as they added four more runs in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded double by
Patrick Arntson that scored three and fielding error by the Beaver defense.
Tyler Beck threw well to earn a complete game win scattering seven hits and allowing just one run while striking out six batters.
Kraus led the Peacocks with four hits in four at bats, while Arntson added three hits in four at bats.
Game Two Recap
Upper Iowa scored the first six runs of game two thanks to a pair of runs in the third inning when Casillas singled through the right side sending two Peacocks to the plate and four more runs in the fourth. The big fourth inning came as the Peacocks batted around. The inning was highlighted by an rbi-single for
Cody Heiman, an rbi for
Taylor Brecht when he was hit by a pitch and rbi-singles for Adams and Casillas.
Bemidji State scored a run in the fourth and added another in the seventh pulling within four, 6-2. The Peacocks added a run in the eighth on another rbi-single by Adams and a run in the ninth when Arntson delivered Kraus home after a double to lead off the inning.
The runs were important as insurance as the Beavers scored a pair of runs in the eighth on a two-run long ball to left.
Rory Kolo started the game and earned a no-decision after throwing four innings and allowing one run on five hits.
Trey Cook picked up the win in relief throwing 2.1 innings allowing an unearned run on three hits.
Daniel Riggs threw 2.2 innings coming just one-third of an inning shy of a save; he allowed two runs on just one hit while striking out five Beaver batters.
Adams and Arntson each went three for five at the plate, while Casillas, Kraus and Heiman all chipped in a pair of hits.
The Peacocks went 4-2 over the last week and will look to keep the momentum on their side as they stay on the road for six more games this week. Upper Iowa will head to St. Paul, Minn. on Wednesday to face the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul in a conference double header. Next weekend, UIU will head to the University of Minnesota Duluth for a four-game series with the Bulldogs.
