Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

After going through the first six innings of game one without scoring a run, the Peacocks got back into their groove scoring 18 runs from the final inning of game one through the final inning of game two.  The University of Mary took advantage of their final at bats in game one to turn back a Peacock seventh-inning rally and win 7-3 on a walkoff grand slam.  Upper Iowa dominated game two behind quality pitching and 18 hits to claim a 15-4 win.

The loss in game one snapped a five-game win streak, but the split along with other action in the NSIC has given the Peacocks a 2.1/2 game lead in the race for the final spot in the conference tournament.

Game One Recap

A run in the first and second innings for the Marauders of U-Mary gave the home team a 2-0 lead that held up to the final inning.  The Peacocks stranded 11 baserunners through the first six innings while racking up nine hits prior to the seventh.

Upper Iowa's offense finally broke through in the final inning.  With one out, Andrew Kraus sinlged and moved to third on a double by Patrick Arntson.  Two more doubles off the bats of Ryan Kreiner and John Dobson followed and put the Peacocks on top 3-2.

The Marauders tied the game with one out in the bottom of the inning and chased the Peacock starter, Rory Kolo.  An intentional walk loaded the bases to set up force outs at any base, but after a shallow fly to center for the second out, Tyler Steffan delivered the victory for U-Mary with a grand slam over the wall in left field.  The five-run inning gave the home team a 7-3 victory.

Kolo suffered the loss after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing four runs, three were earned, on six hits while striking out seven batters.

The Peacocks tallied 13 hits and added three walks but left 13 runners on base for the game.  Tyler Adams, Rudy Casillas, Kraus and Taylor Brecht all had two hits apiece.

Game Two Recap

U-Mary scratched the first run on the board in the first inning, but the Peacocks' starter Matt Treybig settled in quickly and began to dominate the Marauder lineup.

Upper Iowa marked the scoreboard in six of the nine innings.  The Peacocks got started with three runs in the second.  After loading the bases, Brecht was hit by a pitch to force one run in and Adams walked to plate the second run.  Casillas drove in the final run of the inning with a single to right.

Mikey Henrichs put the Peacocks ahead 4-1 with a solo shot to left center leading off the third inning.

The runs kept coming in the fifth inning as UIU jumped out to an 8-1 lead thanks to four runs on four hits that all came with two outs.  The inning was highlighted by an Arntson rbi-single and a three-run homerun off the bat of John Dobson.

U-Mary tried to rally with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth cutting the gap to four, 8-4, but Upper Iowa put the game away scoring in each of the final three innings.

A two-run single by Arntson in the seventh plated Henrichs and Kraus, who both doubled to open the inning.

In the eighth inning, Casillas singled, stole second, stole third and then scored when the throw got away.

Leading 11-4, the Peacocks left nothing to chance in the final inning as they put four more runs across the plate.  All the runs came with two outs again and began when Ryan Citro doubled to left to plate one runner.  Henrichs recorded his third extra base hit (two doubles and a homer) with a two-run double to left center.  Kraus capped off UIU's scoring with a double to right center that sent Henrichs home.

Treybig earned the win with six innings of work.  The senior allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out nine batters.  Miguel Helguera and Dan Cwertniak threw three scoreless innings.  Helguera didn't allow a hit in his two innings, while Cwertniak allowed one in his inning.

Upper Iowa will wrap up the regular season this week with six games at home.  The Peacocks will host the #19 Huskies of St. Cloud State on Wednesday in a double header beginning at 2 p.m.  UIU will then host the #6 Mavericks of Minnesota State on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6.  Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Sunday's start is set for noon.
