Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

Upper Iowa earned a split on the baseball diamond at Winona State University today thanks to a 7-6 come-from-behind win in game one on the back of the bullpen.  The Warriors came back with a 13-1 win in game two thanks to a huge nine-run fourth inning.  With the split, the Peacocks remain .500 in the Northern Sun (5-5) while their overall record moved to 9-16.

Game One Recap

Upper Iowa took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by Patrick Arntson that scored Tyler Adams, who singled to lead off the game.

Winona State answered with three runs on just one hit in their half of the first.  With two outs and the bases loaded of walked batters, the Warriors hit a double that cleared the bases and gave the home team a 3-1 lead.

Upper Iowa’s offense responded with three runs on three hits in the second as the team regained their one-run lead, 4-3.  All three runs came with two outs as Adams singled to score Jon Dobson and Juve Reyes.  Adams scored when Rudy Casillas singled through the right side.

The Warriors did not score in the second inning, but their bats did not stay silent long.  WSU scored three runs in the third on three hits highlighted by an rbi-single and a two-run double.

After the third, the Peacock bullpen took over and shut down the Winona State offense.  Freshman Mitch Luebbe threw 3.2 innings and did not allow a hit or run to the Warriors to pick up the victory while Cole Hanson earned the save with one inning of work allowing a hit and two walks but working out of the seventh to preserve the one-run edge.

Trailing 6-4, Upper Iowa began to slowly chip away at the lead.  In the fourth inning, Andrew Kraus grounded out to first, but plated Adams, who once again led off the inning with a hit, to pull the Peacocks within one, 6-5.

UIU tied the game in the sixth inning thanks to the base running of Casillas.  The Peacock shortstop walked with one out and stole second base.  As Casillas attempted to steal third, a throwing error by the Warrior catcher allowed him to come home and knot the score at 6-6.

In the seventh, Ryan Kreiner led off with a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt by Mikey Henrichs.  Kreiner scored on a single off the bat of Juve Reyes.

After a leadoff double for the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh, the home team loaded the bases with one out against Hanson.  The Peacocks got out of the jam thanks to a pop up to short stop and a grounder handled by Casillas at short.

UIU’s starter, Matt Corbitt, who was coming off an injury over the weekend, threw 2.1 innings and allowed six runs on four hits and six walks.

Adams led the Peacocks at the plate with three hits, three runs and a pair of rbi’s.

Game Two Recap

The Warriors scored a run in the second and two more in the third inning before erupting for nine runs on ten hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Upper Iowa scored their lone run in the fifth inning before a WSU run in the sixth closed the door on the game’s scoring.  The Peacock run came thanks to a rbi-single to center field by Adams.
