The Peacocks used a walkoff RBI single from
John Dobson to score
Rudy Casillas and take a 5-4 Victory over the Wolves of Northern State in game one. Both teams combined for 23 runs on 25 hits in game two with the visiors coming out on top by a final count of 14-9. With the split, Upper Iowa is now 14-24 overall including 10-14 in the Northern Sun. Northern State sits at 14-21 on the season and 7-13 in NSIC play.
With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Casillas led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a SAC bunt from
Mikey Henrichs. After
Andrew Kraus reached first with a walk, Dobson stepped to the plate. Dobson proceeded to hit a line drive single to right field driving in Casillas and giving UIU a 5-4 win in dramatic fashion.
NSU struck first in the top of the second on a solo homerun from Robbie Rocamora but the Peacocks would answer in the bottom of the inning when
Ryan Kreiner hit a solo shot of his own to left field.
The Wolves would tack on three more in the top of the next inning before Kreiner and Upper Iowa would even things up in the bottom of the fifth.
With one out, Kreiner hit yet another solo jack to left field to cut the Northern State lead to two. UIU would then hit four consecutive singles from
Juve Reyes,
Ryan Citro,
Tyler Adams, and Casillas. Casillas' scoring Reyes from third. Citro would then score on another sacrifice from Henrichs. Neither team would score until Dobson hit the game-winning single.
Mario Madera (5-1) went the distance giving up four runs, all earned, on seven hits while walking none and striking out three. Kreiner and Casillas each led the way with three hits apiece. Kreiner brought in two RBIs while Casillas, Henrichs and Dobson each bringing in one of their own. Dobson's being the most important of them all.
Brent Lawrence led the way for the Wolves with three hits in four at bats.
Game Two Recap
The Peacock bats didn't get going until the bottomg of the seventh when they already trailed by a score of 12-0.
Taylor Brecht scored on an error, Kraus singled home Adams and Henrichs scored on an RBI double by
Cody Heiman.
NSU would add two more runs in the top of the ninth before UIU's valiant attempt at a comeback in the bottom half of the inning.
Heiman brought in the first one of the inning on an RBI single scoring Henrichs. Kreiner walked with the bases loaded to score Kraus. Brecht brought home two, Arntson and Heiman. Adams singled home Kreiner. Another Henrichs SAC fly scored Brecht and the final run of the game for Upper Iowa in which the Wolves took, 14-9.
Sean Winslow (2-3) led the way for Northern State throwing five innings and giving up no runs on four hits while striking out six and walking two Peacocks.
Tyler Beck (2-3) is saddled with the loss after going just four and two thirds innings and giving up eight runs, seven earned on six hits while striking out three and walking four.
Five Upper Iowa batsmen had multiple hits inclduing Adams (4-5), Kraus (2-6), Heiman (2-3), Arntson (2-3), and Brecht (3-4).
UIU returns to the diamond tomorrow for games three and four of this series with NSU. First pitch of game one is slated for 12 p.m.
