Upper Iowa University Head Men's Basketball Coach
Brian Dolan announced today that David Smith will transfer from Drake University, one of Iowa’s four NCAA Division I institutions, to complete his degree and use his final two years of eligibility with the Peacock men’s basketball program.
Smith, a 6-4 guard, played in 61 games for the Bulldogs including 53 as a redshirt freshman and redshirt sophomore; he played in eight games as a true freshman, but was granted a medical hardship due to a season-ending injury. The Chicago, Ill. native shot 51.3% over the last three years provided backcourt depth to Drake. In high school, Smith was named a first team all-conference performer three times at Lake Forest Academy and averaged over 13 points per game as a junior and senior. He was a four-year starter, three-year letter winner and a nominee for the 2009 McDonald’s High School All-American game.
Smith joins Jordan Hay of North Cedar High School and Connor Schabel of Ankeny High School as members of the 2012 recruiting class that have committed to play for Upper Iowa University.
David is the son of David Smith and Tabitha Outlar.
