Upper Iowa scored the first two runs in Monday's game against Barry in Miami Shores, Fla. but the home team scored an unanswered ten runs on their way to a 10-3 decision. The Peacocks fall to 1-3 on the season after the loss.
The Peacocks scored in the top of the first after putting together three hits in their first four at bats.
Tyler Adams singled to open the game and moved to third on
Rudy Casillas' double to left.
Andrew Kraus plated both runners with a single up the middle.
The Buccaneers put the only marks on the scoreboard over the next seven innings. Barry evened the game in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs and then added two more in the third. The home team continued to add on to their lead with three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 10-2 advantage.
Upper Iowa's final run came in the eighth inning when
Mikey Henrichs and Kraus walked with two outs. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance and Henrichs scored on a single up the middle by
Patrick Arntson.
Matt Treybig took the loss allowing six runs on eight hits over four innings of work. At the plate, the Peacocks were led by Adams, who had three hits, and Arntson, who tallied two hits.
The Peacocks will now travel to Clearwater, Fla. to participate in the Clearwater Baseball Invitational. Upper Iowa will play seven nine-inning affairs from Tuesday, Mar. 6, to Saturday, Mar. 10. UIU will challenge Oakland City, Cedarville and East Stroudsburg.
